Fairfax County Park Foundation - Help build Chessie's Big Backyard!

Chessie's Big Backyard complements the "Our Special Harbor" spray ground that opened last summer and is part of the Family Recreation Center at Lee District Park. And did you know that Chessie is the Chesapeake Bay Cousin of Scotland's famed Loch Ness Monster?

The Tiki Village section has just opened and donations for the "Nautical Cove" play area of this fully accessible playground are now being sought. Visit for more info on how you can give and get involved with this great facility.

MITRE Corporation's Center for Transforming Health has partnered with the Fairfax County Health Department as part of their new initiative to "Transform Health in Our Own Backyard. On August 16th MITRE employees participated in a kickoff event that resulted in 14 volunteers for the Partnership, 11 signed up to serve on Strategic Implementation teams for Partnership For a Healthier Fairfax and 3 signed up to support community health related organizations including SPARC, REACH, and Jeanne Schmidt Clinic.

Looking forward, MITRE is engaged to assist with probono research and volunteer activities to help improve community health, reduce health disparities, help with emergency preparedness and disaster response and promote opportunities for environmental sustainability. They also will host meetings for health related events in their corporate offices.

A great HEALTHY partnership has developed!
