Business Disaster Plans - Are You Ready?

Disasters don't plan ahead, but you can. With the devastation of Hurricane Harvey fresh on our minds, September's Emergency Preparedness Month calls for even greater focus. OP3 is working with Fairfax County's Office of Emergency Management to help businesses be prepared for disaster and recovery through resiliency planning! On September 25th, OEM will host local business organizations for a "Disaster Preparation and Business Resiliency" event at the County's Public Safety Center. Participants will get info on the latest preparedness resources on Fairfax County's Continuity of Operations Plan and a tour of the facility.

Seating is limited and open only to local Chamber members and OP3 partners. Questions can be directed to Grelia Steele at OEM.

The Literacy Council of Northern Virginia (LCNV) teaches English to adults struggling to get by with little to no English-language skills. Through its Destination Workforce® program, LCNV works with business partners to provide intensive on-the-job English classes, encouraging employees to participate more fully and confidently in the workplace. LCNV's most recent Destination Workforce® class, created in partnership with Crowne Plaza Tysons Corner-Mclean, was made possible through a relationship established by Fairfax County's Office of Public Private Partnership, Tysons Partnership, and B.F. Saul Company Hospitality Group.

A+ Community Commitment
from Apple Federal Credit Union

At Apple FCU, it’s about more than just banking. Part of their mission is to support the communities they serve. As such, Apple’s Education Foundation serves as a conduit for its charitable activities — awarding $5,000 scholarships to dozens of high school graduates, funding teacher orientations and supporting education initiatives with grants each year.

Likewise, their Community Involvement Committee spearheads volunteer initiatives to support Northern Virginia Family Service, Habitat for Humanity, Lorton Community Action Center, Head Start, and mentoring at Providence Elementary School, to name just a few.

Apple is also a key contributor to the annual Collect for Kids initiative for FCPS, and serves as a financial partner with the County’s Office to Prevent and End Homelessness. They also work closely with Fairfax County Fire & Rescue, providing smoke detectors, school supplies and haircuts, winter coats, and holiday toys and bikes to more than 2,000 families.

An A+ for Apple Federal Credit Union for this tremendous effort! To learn more, visit, stop by a local branch or call 703-788-4800. P.S.Anyone who lives/works in the County can open accounts.
